Recreate XFS quotas

Publicado por el 11:25 am in Blog | 0 comments

TL;DR: If you know the old quotas and how you set them up initially you just need to recreate them so that they are taken into account again into the new filesystem. This script is for not having to do it manually and it only covers the hard limits not the soft ones. Introduction We needed to migrate a big XFS filesystem from one virtual machine to another virtual machine. The original XFS system did have project quotas enabled and we wanted to preserve them. Actually we were not migrating the XFS filesystem but all the system so that meant...

Enabling virtio on older GNU/Linux installations

Publicado por el 1:46 pm in Blog | 0 comments

Last night I had to migrate a physical GNU/Linux installation to a virtual GNU/Linux installation based on KVM. Usually the Linux kernel or its initrd enables virtio by default and everything works as expected and vda1 is used as the root filesystem. However this was not the case yesterday. I got a message similar to: Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0) which complained about vda1 not being found.   After struggling a little bit I found out how to workaround it. It seems you can enforce some...

Zimbra Source Code distribution should be improved

Introduction As you might know source code is very similar to a cooking recipe. I’m going to borrow (and adapt) some lines from Free as in Freedom by Sam Williams for describing the analogy: Both program and a cooking recipe provide useful step-by-step instructions on how to complete a desired task and can be easily modified if a user has special desires or circumstances. “You don’t have to follow a recipe exactly. You can leave out some ingredients. Add some mushrooms, ‘cause you like mushrooms. Put in less salt...

Notes on debugging fencing agents

Publicado por el 5:12 pm in Blog | Comentarios desactivados en Notes on debugging fencing agents

I have had recently to debug my fence_ovh agent which I suppose I will update soon.I am writing some notes specifically for fence_ovh. Most of them might be applied also to other fencing agents. If you are trying to develop your own fencing agent these notes might help you. The idea is not to learn everything again if I need to develop or improve a fencing agent on myself in the future :). Introduction You can check Fedora FAQ about Fencing to get a general idea of why Fencing is needed in an High Availability (HA) system. Basically you make...

Compilar Zimbra OSE 8.0.6
